Rumor: An Oren-dous book?

Word spreads. It often does when news of this caliber is ushered forward. "The Golden Throne: A Subjective View of Recent History" is the title of the book. During these past few months away from the public eye, it seems the infamous Oren Nillu recruited the services of one Verloquacious Featherink, an eccentric Freelander known for his unusual skills with the written word. Now, the rumor claims, their joint venture has been completed. The parchments claim the book in question offers a detailed account of recent history in Fastheld as seen through the eyes of the former Duke.

Given the time it takes to actually clone the item, very few copies will be available unless demand increases. One of those, stories claim, has already been sent as a gift to the Lord Regent, Zolor Zahir himself. Apparently others have also been sent to some House leaders as well.

News of the Realm: Re-invitation

Assurances, like words with wings, take flight across the realm.

Parchments have gone up all over Nillu's Lode and nearby townships. "I have long accepted change," the announcement reads, "and I therefore reiterate the offer I made many months ago: if you are among those considered Touched by the Shadow, I will personally extend my helping hand and protection, secluded as it may seem. Do not let your abilities go to waste. Come to the Lode and contact me."

The announcement is slowly spreading across the land, signed by the very old man who has recently achieved notoriety through unfortunate rumors: Oren Nillu.

News of the Realm: Westwatch to be renamed

EAST LEG - After centuries of being in the wrong place for the name it was originally given, the Duke of House Lomasa, Norran Lomasa, has officially decided to rename the township of Westwatch to something a little more appropriate.

Located within the Valley of the Blades, roughly due south of Elkmont and west of East Leg, the township was originally named because it "looked to the west" in regards to defining House Lomasa's territorial span, despite being in the northeastern region of Fastheld.

Notable for the "old Lomasa" architecture, the old expansive White Horn Mead Hall, and the monument to Ulfell Lomasa and all those who fell in the Valley of the Blades during the First Wildling War, the small township is to be renamed to "Bull's Run", thus proudly display it's history and connection to Ulfell Lomasa in both name as well as heritage.

News of the Realm: Bramblestone Irregulars to be disbanded

HEDGEHEM - Notifications are being posted throughout Zahir territory highlighting the forced disbanding of the once-mercenary ranks known as the Bramblestone Irregulars, originally commanded by Countess Tomassa Zahir. All Irregulars who do not seek to transfer into the private establishment of the Darkwater Deepers are being reassigned to the Ravensguard. The posted document outlines the following reasons as iterated by the Duchess Voreyn Zahir:

"As corruption in the wake of the inaction and lethargy of the Irregulars has unfortunately succeeded to take a grip over Hedgehem, and as House Zahir is currently in the process of eradicating crime from all of its territories, it has become crucial to our success that we disable an inactive front and instate instead the Ravensguard to look after Hedgehem."

Ever since the Countess Tomassa's seclusion away from Fastheld, rumors of growing gambling rings as well as developing rival gangs, vandalism, and prostitution in Hedgehem have been spreading rapidly. In her notice to her citizens, the Duchess has outlined the plan for the Ravensguard in getting control over Hedgehem once more.

The Duchess's public missive ends with: "Let it not be said that House Zahir divides from within: rather, we combine our forces into one to conquer the products of crime and build successful, peaceful townships."

News of the Realm: Broken Shields disbanded

LIGHT'S REACH - The Sovereign Prince of the Blood, Serath Valoria, has formally disbanded the Order of the Broken Shield - House Kahar's former Order of Knights - and has officially ordered the reassignment of all current House-Knights to become part of the Order of the Sheltered Flame - House Mikin's former Order, and the current Order of House Valoria.

The union of both House-Knight Orders into one grants a larger leadership capacity for the equally combined Valorian Guard, and it hoped will help smooth over some of the logistical problems that are likely to arise while the former Kahar and Mikin Town Guards merge into one larger entity.

News of the Realm: Currency to retain name

FASTHELD KEEP - In light of the rise of House Valoria, the Imperial Treasury has stated that there are no plans to rename the Kahar Imperial. Rich in history and tradition, the 'Kahar Imperial' shall continue to be known by that name, and shall continue to feature motifs of past Emperors of the Imperial Bloodline on one side of each coin, and the Ivory Steelwood on the other.

The term "Imperials" for the currency is now expected to see a rise in popularity, however.

News of the Realm: House Valouria established

LIGHT'S REACH - The revelation from the southern reaches of the Empire is that House Kahar and House Mikin have solidified their alliance by taking their relationship one step further and merging the two Houses into one larger political and economic entitity: House Valoria.

The unexpected but not unsurprising move has seen the birth of the largest House that the Empire of Fastheld has ever borne witness to, placing the townships of Aegisport, Light's Reach, Lionsgate, Southwatch, Road's End, and Wedgecrest all under one banner, combining the House Guard of each into one effective and reaching militia, and securing territory that extends north of the Shadow District and the Fastheld River and west of Northreach Road in the north, and south of Zahir Road and west of the Imperial Throughfare in the south.

The move has effectively seen the end of the Imperial House Kahar, though it is expected that House Valouria will retain the "Imperial House", and the young Emperor will become Talus Valoria the First. The Prince of the Blood has reportedly remarked that House Kahar died with Talus Kahar XIV, and that the memory should rest with him.

Though it is expected that the Imperial Watch will continue to provide law enforcement in Light's Reach in agreement for having a large garrison there (as well as the Imperial Tribunal itself), the question as to the territorial status of the city has now been laid to rest, and the fortunes of the former House Mikin have improved tenfold by the merge, given that the numerous disasters that have befallen the House in the past had left it somewhat wounded and dependent upon House Kahar for regional and economic support (as well as political assistance).

It is not yet know what heraldry will be adopted for House Valoria.

News of the Realm: Zahir masque considered a success

FANGHILL - In what could be considered a political boon for House Zahir, the turnout for the House's masqued ball hosted at Eventide Keep by the Matriarch Voreyn Zahir was apparently greater than critics had expected. Members from nearly every house dropped in to make an appearance and to gawk at the Duchess's esteemed guests of honor: two of the Syladris creatures of Crown's Refuge.

Despite the reports of a few inevitable moments of social awkwardness encountered, the presence of the Syladris at a usually all-noble event went off without any major hitches. Word is rapidly spreading through the townships that the guests of honor participated in the Duchess's costume contest with one of them coming out the victor of the "Best Male Costume" category. Reportedly, one Aeseyri of Crown's Refuge won for his "adorable" rendition of "Violet the Cow".

It is now rumored that the Duchess will be entertaining the exotic guests from the Refuge for the coming fortnight in hopes of helping introduce them fully into Fastheldian society. Whether or not the Duchess will gain any sort of political or social benefits from such a relationship is yet to be seen.

Lore: Ebonhold

A storm gathers over the northern citadel of Ebonhold. Dark clouds shadow the land below, though lightning has yet to strike...

News of the Realm: Scholars claim "empire" getting smaller

JADE GARDENS - Old Noble scholars meeting at the Dancing Duchess Tavern in the Seamel township of Jade Gardens for their annual event of sharing profound knowledge of a particular subject are said to have put forth a startling theory - namely, that the Empire is getting smaller.

The scholars cited numerous examples of locations that "used to exist" but that they have been unable to find in recent weeks. One scholar, for example, stated that he just "couldn't find" Southwatch's famous Red Claw Tavern during a recent visit to the southern Mikin township.

Another cited his confusion at being unable to locate a mercantile in Wedgecrest that sold fine pipeweed that he was fond of, and then being exceptionally vexed when he then couldn't find his favorite taphouse in the very same city, which he was "sure" he'd frequented just a week before.

However, these theories were generally taken with a pinch of salt, and most other Nobles who heard of such scholarly theories dismissed such notions as the crazed rambling of old men who had too much time on their hands and too much ale in their body.

Some Freelanders were even heard to wonder if the old scholars had simply become senile in their old age, and if they'd just "forgot" where such establishments were.
